Macky 2 Pays Tribute to Slapdee on new Single “Dear Slapdee”
Zambian hip-hop legend Macky 2 has surprised fans with a deeply emotional release titled “Dear Slapdee”, a track dedicated to none other than his friend and former rival – Slapdee.
Once the faces of one of Zambia’s most iconic rap rivalries, Macky 2 and Slapdee helped shape the sound and culture of modern Zambian hip-hop. What began as competition over a decade ago eventually blossomed into mutual respect, brotherhood, and legacy – and this new record is Macky 2’s way of putting that journey into words.
In the song, Macky 2 reflects on their battles in the early 2010s, the fire that fueled their youthful hunger, and how their clash of talents laid the foundation for today’s thriving industry. But more importantly, he acknowledges that the culture still needs its pioneers to remain visible, to mentor, and to continue inspiring the new generation of artists.
“We didn’t just make music… we built foundations. We turned competition into culture. And somewhere along the way, rivalry turned into respect. Respect turned into brotherhood. That’s not just growth.. that’s legacy,” Macky 2 writes.
